The types of the professionalism for the physical therapists in Korea: Approach in Q-methodology

Abstract
At the present day, the medial market pursue a system that trains each single personnel in the field in order to cultivate them as professional. Literally, the professionalism tends to gain lots of attention as one of the main reasons that affect the efficiency of the organization or the outcome of the patient's treatment. In this study, the Q methodology has been used to identify the characteristics and context of the types of professionalism shared by practicing physical therapists in Korea. Physical therapists were forcibly required to categorize 35 statements into the Q sample classification table consisting of 9 scales. 40 responses were analyzed and Principal Component Factor Analysis were analyzed by using PQMethod 2.33. program. According to this study, physical therapists' professionalism has been identified as three types: ¡°Growth-pursuer type¡± that emphasize the development of physical therapists' expertise and the introduction of regulatory systems, ¡°Critical on reality-type¡± that conflict between occupational ideals and reality, and ¡°A sense of vocation-type¡± who highly dedicates the whole life to their job and tends to feel worth being as a physical therapists with a sense of duty. I suggested that all the efforts be put to improve the quality of the physical therapy and set up the internal regulatory system as well as clarify the functions and roles of the Physical Therapists¡¯ Association
